On the side of the north was a strong patriotism and a desire to rid the country of the French and Americans. In the south, people lived under a dictatorship funded by the west. Communists vs. Catholics.
The first major war that was covered on television.
In 1973 Arab countries imposed an embargo on oil exports to countries supporting Israel. America ran out of money to support South Vietnam and in 1975 Saigon fell.
The war has been reflected in great movies: Apocalypse Now, Full Metal Jacket, The Deer Hunter. Travis Bickle (Taxi Driver) is a Vietnam war veteran.
